The Re
orientation camp, as the name indicates, is a
period of time, to re-orient the child’s
perspective as a street addict to a disciplined
and orderly outlook about life.
The
reorientation camp is a period of time during
which the child is given time and resources to
focus his thinking toward a better future with
higher values and to give him orientation about
his family and its importance. During this
time, the child is exposed to various creative
activities, to change his interest in street
life to a more stable disciplined life. Here the
child has a structured time- table with simple
rules to be followed. The child during this
period is carefully studied and his family back
ground and the reasons which brought him away
from home are envisaged. There by, the child
through the period of time, thinks, reflects and
accordingly decides to go back to his family or
stay in NJBB for further education or learning
skills.
Thus, the aim of
the camp is to re-orient a child’s perspective
with the instinct of running away from the
problem situation and to focus on leading a
normal stable life.
There are three
Re-Orientation camps, viz. PRERANA
(motivation) [for children of the age group of
6-11 years]; VELUGU (Light) [for the
children of the age group of 12 -14 years of
age]; VIMUKTHI (freedom) [for the
children of the age group of 15-18 years].

From these camps, he goes to foster homes
or into exclusive youth hostels. From there, he
attends bridge schools and/or vocational
training. The child is then placed in regular
schools, technical/vocational training centres
etc. The foster homes and youth hostels continue
to follow up each child, as he/she grows in
confidence, complete her/his studies (some even
post graduation and professional courses). Care
and attention are continued till the child is
gainfully employed and starts her/his own home.
They in turn serve the movement as peer leaders
and volunteers, during their rehabilitation and
once they are settled in life.
Home reintegration
[rejoining with their families] is given primary
importance during the camp program]. The
counsellors and the program in-charges render
necessary guidance and advice in this regard.
